Description

For ultimate productivity the Elcon QUADRA vertical panel saw takes ADVANCE clamping to the next level with the addition of a CNC controlled pusher system. The pusher positions the cut strip for crosscutting. The whole process is automated requiring the operator to only start each process with a single button press. Multiple cutting lists can be programmed directly at the machine or remotely from an office PC.

In conjunction with optional Ardis optimising software components can be effectively nested prior to generating the cutting lists for maximum yield.

The QUADRA model is configured as standard with a range of features for processing wood based panels, composites, plastics and non-ferrous metals. For complete flexibility the QUADRA can be operated in basic manual mode, semi-automatic and fully programmable CNC mode.

Frame sizes and capacities

The Elcon QUADRA wall saw is capable of cutting single or multiple sheets up to a thickness of 55mm in automatic mode, or up to 80mm in manual mode. The machine is available in one standard frame sizes but increased working capacities are available on request;

215 frame – 5300 x 2150 mm cutting capacity

Special – customised cutting capacities available on request

The frame itself is a fully self-supporting design, constructed from robust modular components with  high precision guidance bar. Elcon’s unique manufacturing process ensures tension free fitting of the guidance bar resulting in reliable lifelong cutting accuracy of 0.1mm/m.

For non-standard material sizes the QUADRA can be extended vertically and/ or horizontally to provide increased cutting capacity.

Back frame and support

As with most Elcon vertical panel saws the QUADRA features an automatic shifting back frame. Panels are supported by a series of horizontal backing strips. When cutting horizontally inevitably the sawing line will sometimes coincide with the support strips. Rather than cutting through the support strips the Elcon QUADRA recognises when this will happen and moves the support strips out of the sawing line. This is all done automatically requiring no input from the operator, ensuring no damage is caused to the machine. The system can be powered pneumatically or electronically.

When cutting smaller work pieces a pneumatically operated mid-rail fence can be engaged raising the working height of the machine to save the operator having to bend down.

The QUADRA includes double bearing transport rollers as standard. Panels are loaded and glide into position with minimal effort. When cutting a pneumatic panel clamp secures the work piece to prevent it from moving.

Saw head

Key to the QUADRA is the pneumatically operated saw head. Rather than the operator manually plunging the saw into the material when cutting, the QUADRA is pneumatically assisted requiring almost no effort to make the plunge. This is particularly useful when cutting thicker panels, or when cutting larger panels at height.

Fine adjustment is included on the saw head for precise setting of horizontal cuts.

The balanced sawing head can be quickly orientated through 90° to set up for either vertical or horizontal cutting. The high speed saw motor runs at 4200 rpm to ensure smooth precise cutting.

For repetitive horizontal strip cutting the machine is supplied with a repeat stop. This allows the saw head to be quickly lowered and set against the last cut for consistent accuracy.

Scoring

The optional electro-pneumatic scoring system is a popular additional on the QUADRA model. When working with faced material, laminated and veneered board the double cut scoring system can be used to avoid chipping and breakout. The system enables the operator to limit the depth of plunge on the main saw blade allowing a reverse cut to made, scoring the material, followed by a full plunge to cut right through the material resulting in a perfectly clean cut. The system can be engaged and disengaged from conveniently positioned push button on the plunge arm.

Fence

The DSX ADVNCE features a heavy duty flip down fence stop with fine adjustment providing a positive and robust datum for positioning panels when cutting vertically. The saw beam is locked into one of a series of positions (0, 1, 2 etc) and the fence stop adjusted. For example, when cutting 1300mm, the fence is positioned to 300mm and the saw beam locked at position 1, for 2300mm the fence remains positioned at 300mm and the saw beam locked into position 2.

Safety

Vertical panel saws are generally considered one of the safest panel sizing methods available when used by trained operators. The Elcon QUADRA goes further and includes a series of electronic safety systems that monitor the machines saw beam position and head tilt orientation. The machine will not start if it is not correctly set up with the beam locked/ unlocked and head positioned correctly for horizontal or vertical cutting.

QUADRA automatic cutting cycle

The Elcon QUADRA vertical panel saw features the most advanced automatic cutting cycle available. All the cutting movements are carried out automatically, working from a pre-defined cutting list that can be entered manually at the machine, or remotely from an office based PC. Engaged by the touch of button the cutting speed can be adjusted from 0 – 20 m/min depending on the material being cut. The cutting height and length is also adjusted to the actual size of panel being cut.

The panel is first clamped, a datum cut then made to clean up and square the bottom edge of the panel. A strip cut can then be made while the ADVANCE panel clamps support the remaining panel above. The saw head rotates into the vertical cutting position and the CNC controlled pusher positions the strip cut for final cutting to size. This process is repeated until the cutting list is complete.

Optional equipment

The Elcon QUADRA is well equipped in its standard specification but additional features are available to further tailor the machine to your exact requirements;
