Health and Safety Cutterhead Lifting System

The Sherpa Hoist offers an improved method of loading and unloading cutterheads onto the horizontal and vertical spindles of planers and moulding machines. It provides the necessary safety and improved working conditions for the operator to carry out the changeover of tooling and avoid the heavy lifting and uncomfortable working conditions that often accompany this activity.

Applications
A wide variety of cutterheads are easily and accurately positioned on both vertical and horizontal spindles with the minimum of delay. The hoist has a manually operated hydraulic pump unit for the vertical lift movement fitted with a slow release valve for downward control. The hoist is a one-man operation easy to use and designed to maneuver freely in the area to be covered at the front of the machine.

Horizontal Loading
The hoist is supplied complete with a short stub spindle that locates in the bore of horizontal cutterheads. Once the cutterhead is loaded onto the stub spindle, a safety retaining pin prevents any accidental sliding of shaft during transportation. Swivel rear castors on the base, together with hydraulic lift systems, provide the operator with a safe and easy operation to position the cutterhead onto the machine spindle.

Vertical Loading
An additional attachment is provided and this is mounted onto the existing boom spindle. This allows the operator to hang cutterheads for the vertical spindles. The attachment can be quickly located and aligned with the aid of a keyway and secured with a safety retaining pin. Eye bolts are located and screwed into the end face of the cutterhead into which the lifting cradle hooks are fastening to allow for safe vertical movement.
