Aberdeen College Relocate and Re-Equip

Wadkin DMV Mortiser and Wadkin C700 BandsawAfter talks with Daltons Wadkin including site meetings in Aberdeen during 2009, a contract was placed with the Nottingham based woodworking machinery distributors and manufacturers to provide new machinery to meet the college’s relocation and expansion plans.

Daltons Wadkin Sales Director Andy Walsh who negotiated the contract was successful in not only putting a package of machinery together to the value of some quarter of a million pounds but also took on the responsibility of removing a number of existing woodworking machines from the original workshops, upgrading them and transporting and re-installing the equipment at the new Altens Centre at Hareness Road. A team of engineers was provided to carry out the engineering work, install and commission both the relocated machines and the new equipment and the company’s own specialist transport was used throughout.

The machinery installed by Daltons Wadkin included 13 new Wadkin classical machines, a Kuper SWT23XL 5-Head Planer/ Moulder and a Stenner ST100R Band Resaw as well as a number of machines by Casadei, Houfek, Stromab, RJH and Meddings. The contract was completed in August requiring Technical Director Steve Balchin and his installation team to spend many days and nights north of the border.

Andy Walsh, who hails from Scotland himself and has had much experience in handling projects of this kind, praised the efforts made on both sides to achieve the end result. He said “We are very pleased to be associated with what has obviously been a big investment for the college as well as a satisfying contract for ourselves.”
